ONE: ‘Heroes of the World’ took place at the Cotai Arena in Macau on Saturday night (local time) and Adriano Moraes claimed the interim flyweight belt with a submission win over Tilek Batyrov. The Brazilian finished the fight with a rear naked choke late in the second round.
The show took place at the Venetian Resort & Casino and was ONE Championship’s first in Macau. Batyrov was a short notice replacement for the injured Andrew Leone but the belt was on the line for Moraes only because the fighter from Kyrgyzstan was overweight.
Moraes was able to take Batyrov down twice in the opening round and landed some light ground and pound although he never looked like finishing the fight. The Brazilian seemed to be pacing himself but easily evaded his opponents’ attacks in the stand up exchanges.
In the second stanza Moraes caught a body kick and tripped Batyrov to the ground. He briefly threatened with a rear-naked choke but the Kyrgyz fighter was able to escape and work his way up only to find himself on the receiving end of a flying knee.
Batyrov tried to turn the tide of the fight by jumping for a guillotine but ended up on his back with the Brazilian in half guard. Moraes quickly moved into side control and attempted a north south choke which was deep enough for the referee to take a close look at the action.
Batyrov survived but the Brazilian was relentless with his submission attempts and finally finished the fight with a rear naked choke with just 11 seconds remaining in the round. The Brazilian improves to 15-1 and wins the interim flyweight belt while his opponent drops to 10-2.
