Sam Alvey issued one of the friendliest callouts in UFC history. After defeating Marcin Prachnio by knockout at UFC on FOX 28 last month, Alvey said he’d like to face Gian Villante next in the least adversarial way possible.
And, as it turns out, Alvey will get his wish. A bout between Alvey and Villante has been set up for UFC Utica on June 1, Newsday reported Tuesday.
Alvey (32-10, 1 NC) moved up to light heavyweight for his bout against Prachnio and looked fantastic. The Team Quest product has won six of his last eight bouts. Alvey, 31, owns victories over Rashad Evans, Nate Marquardt and Dan Kelly in the middleweight division.
Villante (16-9) is coming off a split decision win over Francimar Barroso at UFC 220 in January. The Long Island native snapped a two-fight losing streak with the victory. Villante, 32, is a former star college football player with big knockout power.
UFC Utica marks the UFC’s first trip to the Upstate New York city. The card will take place at Adirondack Bank Center. Also on the card, Lauren Murphy will lock up with Sijara Eubanks in a key women’s flyweight bout.
