Paul Felder will be facing a different lightweight opponent at UFC 218 in Detroit.
There’s a bit of good news and bad news as it pertains to the UFC 218 pay-per-view event on December 2nd.
The bad news is that Al Iaquinta is injured and out of his scheduled matchup with fellow lightweight Paul Felder, as first reported by MMA Fighting. For some good news, the replacement is more than acceptable, as MMAjunkie reported on Tuesday that Charles Oliveira will instead face Felder. UFC officials have not yet announced this new booking.
Oliveira (22-7, 1 NC) is coming off a sensational first-round submission win over Will Brooks at UFC 210. The Brazilian has had inconsistent results over his last five fights, as well as serious problems trying to make the featherweight limit. “Do Bronx” has missed weight four times in his career, but the Brooks win was an official lightweight bout, so this is the first time he’s had consecutive scheduled lightweight fights in six years.
Felder (14-3) has looked outstanding in recent outings, stopping Alessandro Ricci in February before knocking out Scotland’s Steven Ray in Glasgow back in July. “The Irish Dragon” has won four of his last five fights after suffering a couple of defeats against Edson Barboza and Ross Pearson. Felder’s career highlight is his spinning backfist KO of Danny Castillo at UFC 182, and he’s quickly become a fan-favorite.
UFC 218 takes place at the Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit, Michigan and is headlined by a featherweight championship bout between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar.
