Let the celebration continue.
Holly Holm is still in Australia, but when she arrives home she’ll be getting a hero’s welcome. Two days after the historic upset of Ronda Rousey, the Albuquerque (N.M.) City Council has proclaimed November as “Holly Holm Month,” MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani has confirmed.

Holm beat Rousey by knockout in the second round of the UFC 193 main event Saturday in Melbourne. The Albuquerque native, who trains at the city’s JacksonWink MMA gym, was one of the biggest underdogs ever in a UFC title fight. She’ll be returning to New Mexico this week with the UFC women’s bantamweight belt in tow.
The certificate not only mentions Holm’s many athletic achievements — she’s a former three-division women’s boxing champion and two-time Ring magazine female boxer of the year — but also her standing as a community leader. Holm is called “a gifted ambassador, not just representing combat sports or women alone, but the City of Albuquerque and even the state of New Mexico at large.”
