Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight No. 1 contender, Alexander Gustafsson, has come up short in two separate chances to capture the 205-pound crown. After dropping a close decision to Jon Jones at UFC 165, “The Mauler” was outpointed by Daniel Cormier at UFC 192.
And here I thought there was no place to go but down.
According to Gustafsson, promotion president Dana White — along with CEO Lorenzo Fertitta — told the towering Swede they have “big plans” for his combat sports career. Maybe that means a Jon Jones rematch so that Ryan Bader can get his title shot in early 2016?
