Yes, Alexander Volkanovski will be fighting at this weekend’s UFC Sydney.
The Australian fighter had two different opponents – Jeremy Kennedy and Humberto Bandenay – drop out due to injury in the build up to UFC Sydney (UFC Fight Night 121). The UFC found a third opponent for Volkanovski, as newcomer Shane Young has accepted to take on Volkanovski at featherweight on just days notice. The promotion announced the news on Tuesday after MMA DNA initially reported it Sunday.
The 29-year-old Volkanovski is currently 15-1 in his pro MMA career, including a 2-0 run in the UFC. In his two UFC bouts, Volkanovski defeated Yusuke Kasuya and Mizuto Hirota. Meanwhile, Young will be looking to put a five-fight win streak on the line. “Sugar” is 24 years old and owns an MMA record of 11-3.
UFC Sydney is scheduled to take place on Saturday at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. Heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Marcin Tybura are scheduled to headline the card.
