Who gets the next crack at the heavyweight crown?

Top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) contender Alistair Overeem could be the one to challenge newly-minted 265-pound titleholder Stipe Miocic, who toppled Fabricio Werdum in the UFC 198 pay-per-view (PPV) main event last weekend in Brazil.

But Cain Velasquez will undoubtedly be a front runner as well, assuming the former heavyweight champ can get through Travis Browne at the UFC 200 extravaganza in July (details). A win over “Hapa” would solidify his spot at No. 2 in the division rankings.

Something Overeem told SiriusXM (via MMA Fighting) he doesn’t understand.

“I think I’m gonna be next for the championship. I just assume that. You know four wins in a row. Nobody else has better numbers than that. Okay you have Cain Velasquez but he’s coming off of a loss. He’s ranked No. 2. I don’t really get that. He’s coming off of a loss and then the other thing is his last win dates from 2013. That’s three years ago. It’s 2016 now. His last win is 2013. So I don’t understand why he’s ranked No. 2, but I’m not a numbers guy.”

Overeem (41-14, 1 NC) is the winner of four straight, with three of those coming by way of thunderous knockout (like this one). In addition, the towering Dutchman has a decade’s worth of accolades to draw from, including championship titles in Strikeforce, DREAM, and K-1.

So, as a fan, Overeem … or Velasquez?
