Alistair Overeem sees gold in his future.

After knocking out Andrei Arlovski in the main event of UFC Fight Night 87 Sunday in Rotterdam, the kickboxing specialist has won four straight inside the UFC Octagon. His back-to-back knockouts of former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos and Arlovski create a strong case for a title shot.

While the heavyweight strap is put on the line May 14 at UFC 198 when champion Fabricio Werdum faces Stipe Miocic, Overeem feels it’s only a matter of time before he feels the weight of that belt around his own waist.

“Well, I think I do have the best cause for a title win,” Overeem said during the UFC Fight Night 87 post-fight press conference. “I don’t know about a title shot — a title win.”

Overeem acknowledges the importance of that matchup for his own future, but he says he favors neither fighter. He just wants the better fighter to emerge victorious, then he’ll take it from there.

“I really believe ‘may the best man win,'” Overeem said. “I have a history with Werdum. I think he’s a very tricky, a very clever fighter. Stipe’s also very dangerous, but may the best man win. I consider myself a champion. Champions fight anybody. Anybody, any time, anywhere. So may the best man win. And I think I do have the best cause for a title win.”

Werdum submitted Overeem with a kimura in Pride FC in 2006, but Arlovski got revenge in Strikeforce in 2011 via unanimous decision.
