Alvarez on McGregor and Lesnar getting title shots: That is the world we live in today

Without even fully serving his suspension yet, it was already announced that Brock Lesnar would be getting an immediate title shot against Daniel Cormier once he gets clearance from USADA in January. And on Thursday, Conor McGregor was cleared from all charges from his UFC 223 bus attack, as he is now primed to face Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Both Lesnar and McGregor jumping the line and getting their title shots may seem unwarranted, but former 155-pound champion Eddie Alvarez chooses to just accept it as the reality of the situation.

“That is the world we live in today, folks,” Alvarez said during the UFC on FOX 30 media day. “We are all fools if we think otherwise. Brock Lesnar just walked in here and got a world title shot. This is what’s happening.”

“We have no control,” he continued. “The media, myself, the fighters, no one. The UFC says who gets the next title shot. I have no control of that. I beat the guys in front of me, I could dominate everyone. It doesn’t matter. The money fight’s what’s always gonna count.”

Alvarez is pushing for better compensation for his new deal, and given how much the UFC makes, he also feels everyone in the roster should get a piece of the pie.

“I think everybody’s underpaid,” he said. “And I think the media also knows that everybody’s underpaid and I don’t think it’s talked about a lot.”

“We all should get more. The UFC makes a sh-tload of money, and I want them to make money. Without this sport, I wouldn’t be able to make a living. I want them to make tons of money. I’m not mad at that. I just want them to share a little, share a little with us. That’s all.”

Alvarez will be fighting out the last fight on his UFC contract on Saturday, as he faces Dustin Poirier in a rematch that headlines the upcoming FOX card in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
