Amanda Nunes issues public apology to Ronda Rousey following UFC 207 outbursts

Considering how little Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) invested in Amanda Nunes prior to her showdown against Ronda Rousey at UFC 207 last month in Las Vegas, Nevada, it’s easy to understand why “Lioness” might be roaring extra loud over the past couple of weeks.

Beating “Rowdy” on the grandest of stages to retain her 135-pound was a pretty big deal (watch the video highlights here).

But as the days dragged on and Nunes continued to slam the former division titleholder — widely credited for making women’s mixed martial arts (MMA) the success it is today — fellow fighters (like this one) started to caution the Brazilian about following in the same arrogant footsteps as her predecessor.

Something Nunes took to heart, based on her public apology posted to her official Instagram page:

“Let me take a moment to explain myself. I was overwhelmed with adrenaline, emotion and hurt at the time. I held so much in during the weeks prior to my fight with Ronda. I might have said or posted some things at the time that I now realize was not the right thing to do. I want to apologize to Ronda. Her fans and mine and the UFC as well. Ronda is an amazing athlete and has done so much for this sport, especially for the women.”

No argument here.

While Rousey is “probably done” with her UFC career (according to this guy), Nunes still has unfinished business inside the Octagon. That includes a bantamweight rematch against the unimpressed Valentina Shevchenko, who submitted Julianna Pena at UFC on FOX 23 last weekend in Denver, Colorado (highlights).
