Reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, for all intents and purposes, just won the lottery.
That’s because “Lioness” gets to fight Ronda Rousey in the UFC 207 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, which takes place this December in Las Vegas, Nevada (details), in what amounts to “Rowdy’s” first fight back since last November’s knockout loss to Holly Holm in Australia.
Expect big business at the box office.
“This fight is gonna change my life, my career,” Nunes told TMZ. “I hope she’s ready. I know she’s a very tough opponent, but I’m the best in the world.”
That remains to be seen.
Nunes captured the crown with a first-round submission win over Miesha Tate at UFC 200 back in July. It was the Brazilian’s fourth straight win and third finish since Cat Zingano stopped her at UFC 178. No doubt a victory over “Rowdy” — the odds-on betting favorite — would cement her legacy as an all-time great.
“She’s gonna be surprised when I connect with my punches,” Nunes continued. “This is gonna be harder for Ronda, because everyone expects her to win. She can’t, she knows that.”
