Amanda Nunes: ‘Weird’ Ronda Rousey avoiding ‘what made her who she is’ with UFC 207 media blackout

Ronda Rousey is avoiding as much media as she can ahead of her much-anticipated return against current women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on Dec. 30, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Largley because of this.

It’s a bad move on her part, says the aforementioned Nunes, seeing as how the media is supposed to be unbiased, and won’t always be there to sing your praises when you win, but also criticize your mistakes and losses.

“Yeah I think she’s been very weird about everything,” Nunes told FOX Sports. “This is MMA, people are going to talk good about you, people are going to talk bad about you. You have to be ready for it.”

“You guys (the media), you’re part of our lives, part of our careers. We have to talk and speak to the media because this is part of our job. She’s being so dramatic and weird about that. She knows this is normal.”

To hear “Leoa” tell it, she’s baffled by the fact the “Rowdy” is now avoiding the very thing that made her into the major breakout star that she is today, as the former champ was once the media darling that was seemingly everywhere.

“I really don’t want to think she’s weak but she shows that she’s been avoiding all those things that made her who she is now. I think it’s a little bit weird,” she said.

Despite Ronda’s refusal to engage with select media, preferring to only hit the big stages like “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien,” Amanda says she expects a well-prepared and dangerous opponent come fight night.

“I don’t think she’s weak in mind. I really think she’s prepared for the comeback. I expect the best Ronda but I don’t know what’s wrong with her.”

Ronda recently revealed that doing less media was something she negotiated in her contract prior to signing on the dotted line to return after more than a year of non-action. And while many would love to hear what “Rowdy” has to say about her upcoming fight, they’ll be content if she just shows up on fight night.
