Anderson Silva is synonymous with mixed martial arts (MMA) greatness. He is also synonymous with incredible knockouts, ridiculous movement and world-class striking. While fight fans will have the opportunity to see Silva channel all of these legendary aspects later tonight (Sat., Feb. 11, 2017) at UFC 208 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, when the Brazilian takes on Derek Brunson, they will not see “The Spider” enter the cage to his usual tune.
Silva, who will be chasing his first win since defeating Stephan Bonnar via TKO back in 2012, will make his walk to the Octagon alongside a new song. The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) titleholder recently took to Instagram to announce he’ll be dropping DMX’s “Ain’t No Sunshine” in favor of son Kalyl Silva’s “Doom,” which can be found on iTunes.
As any father would do, Silva is giving his son some air time. You also have to consider that the 41-year-old is at a point in his career in which he’s trying to have fun instead of chasing titles. Having lost four out of his last five Octagon appearances, Silva could also be trying to switch things up and channel his inner youth leading into UFC 208.
Either way, “The Spider” will make yet another walk to the cage later this evening. If he can debunk Brunson’s wrestling and power striking, maybe the aging veteran can make one last run at UFC gold.
MMAmania.com will deliver LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the entire UFC 208 fight card, starting with the Fight Pass “Prelims” matches online, which are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET, and then the remaining undercard balance on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET, before the main card start time at 10 p.m. ET on PPV.
