Anderson Silva removes himself from UFC 212 fight card: ‘I’m done’

We’re less than a month away from the upcoming UFC 212: “Aldo vs. Holloway” pay-per-view (PPV) event on Sat., June 3, 2017, scheduled for HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (see the fight card here).

And the promotion still does not have an opponent for Anderson Silva.

That’s probably why “The Spider” removed himself from the hometown lineup on Sunday, frustrated with his inability to get the match ups the Brazilian bomber believes he’s entitled to.

From his conversation with UOL (via MMA Junkie):

“I really wanted to fight in Brazil, my country, but it’s not going to happen. I want to apologize for this. I really wanted to fight here, but it didn’t happen. I think I was hurt in this, but that’s it. I’m very disappointed. The guys don’t respect my legacy, don’t respect my story in the sport. I don’t know. I’m done.”

Silva has not competed since a controversial win over Derek Brunson at UFC 208.

During that time, “The Spider” has continued to call for an interim title fight against Yoel Romero, who is available to compete now that division champion, Michael Bisping, is playing tag with Georges St-Pierre.

I guess it’s only a matter of time before this happens.
