Anderson Silva: UFC has to make Bisping vs. Romero, no excuses

Anderson Silva wants the UFC to book Yoel Romero for a title shot against Michael Bisping.

Anderson Silva is not a happy man these days. After clamoring for an interim title fight against Yoel Romero and threatening retirement if it is not granted to him, UFC president Dana White rejected the idea, and even called “The Spider’s” bluff about hanging it up for good.

Silva was originally booked to fight at UFC 212, but supposed opponent Kelvin Gastelum was pulled out after testing positive for cannabis. With that situation at hand, the former long-time middleweight champion decided to dismantle his camp in preparation for the said fight.

As his immediate fighting future remains uncertain, Silva has directed his attention to trying to help out his fellow middleweights. In a recent Instagram stream (via MMA Fighting), the 42-year-old Brazilian fighter campaigned for Yoel Romero to be given the next title shot against Michael Bisping.

“Now the almighty one, who everybody knows who it is, has to calm down and put Yoel Romero to fight,” Silva said, referring to Dana White. “Now he has to put Yoel Romero to fight, and there is no excuse. He has no excuse to give. He has to put Yoel Romero to fight, because Yoel Romero is the No. 1 in the ranking, and (Michael) Bisping said he’s ready to fight. So, there’s no more talk. He has to put Yoel Romero to fight. Period.”

During Monday’s MMA Hour edition, Luke Rockhold called for the other top 185-pound contenders to “stand their ground” against the UFC for what has been happening in the title landscape. Silva, apparently, is on the exact same page.

“I’ll be honest with you, I don’t have any personal problem with him (White), but the problem is when it affects the fighters, when it affects the fighters that leave home for three months to train, who train hard, who train injured, and who make it all happen, we are the ones who make the show happen, not him,” Silva said. “No. He sits there and only books fights and stays there, brother. The truth is that this is a big joke that is happening, and it has to stop.”

“This is what I love doing. That’s what I love the most in my life, but I can’t accept this bullsh-t with athletes in our division and athletes in the entire sport. People have to understand that the UFC is not a sport, the UFC is a company.

“The UFC is not a sport. MMA is a sport,” he continued. “The UFC is just a brand that produces MMA fights.”

“One for all, all for one.”
