Kelvin Gastelum returns to Brazil to fight another legend in Anderson Silva at UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro on June 3rd.
Kelvin Gastelum will be returing to Brazil sooner than expected.
The middleweight fighter just took out one of the country’s legends in Vitor Belfort at UFC Fight Night: Fortaleza last weekend. And now the UFC has just announced he will take on another legend in Anderson Silva at UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro on June 3rd.

Gastelum has been on a fast track up the middleweight division rankings following a botched 170 pound weight cut for a fight with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 205. Kelvin blew that one so badly he didn’t even bother to show up for the weigh-ins. But that didn’t stop the promotion from quickly rebooking him for UFC 206 against the always tough Tim Kennedy at middleweight, a fight he won via KO in the third round. And then Vitor Belfort three months later and now Anderson Silva in another three months.
It’s another impressive addition to UFC 212 in Rio, which is already set to feature a featherweight title bout between Jose Aldo and Max Holloway, plus a women’s strawweight contender battle between Claudia Gadelha and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. There’s also a very good chance the UFC will grant Vitor Belfort’s wish to have his final UFC bout in Rio against a non-Brazilian opponent.
