It seems UFC Fight Night 137 is cursed.
Only one day after bantamweight contender Ketlen Vieira was forced to leave the card with an injury, MMA Fighting reported that middleweight Antonio Carlos Junior also hurt himself and has pulled out of his bout against Elias Theodorou.
Initially meant to take Derek Brunson at UFC 227, Antonio Carlos Junior (10-2-1 NC) ended up paired up with Theodorou when his original opponent suffered an eye injury. The 28-year-old is currently on a five-fight winning streak, with four submissions, under the UFC banner. It is not known yet if Elias will remain on the card.
During this run, the Brazilian defeated the likes of Leonardo Augusto Guimaraes, Marvin Vettori, Eric Spicely, Jack Marshman and Tim Boetsch. His last loss came in March 2016, when he was TKO’d by Dan Kelly.
Other than Junior and Vieira, original headliner Glover Teixeira also left the card with a shoulder injury. UFC Fight Night 137 in Sao Paulo, Brazil will now be headlined by Jimi Manuwa and short notice replacement, Thiago Santos, on September 22.
