Renan Barao won’t listen to any criticism ahead of his bout against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 214.
Renan Barao is done listening to his critics on social media. As he told Combate, there’s no way any of them can know what he has gone through, so he just tunes them out and keeps on working as he prepares for Aljamain Sterling on Saturday night.
“Don’t give a f—k and keep on working. That’s the goal. Only the people by your side your whole life know what you go through. People who don’t know what they’re talking about can go get lost. I do just like a friend of mine. I delete them. I block them. It’s done, brother. If you don’t like my work, brother, don’t follow me anymore. Turn (the cell phone) off and block me. That’s it.
“Most of them talk about and have never put a gi on. They have never been as much as slapped in the face. They’re sitting on their couches, behind their computers, talking crap. They don’t know what an athlete goes through.”
Barao is expected to take on Sterling at UFC 214, in Anaheim, California, on July 29. The card will be headlined by a UFC light heavyweight title fight between champion Daniel Cormier and former champion, Jon Jones.
