Bellator 158: “London” takes place at O2 Arena in London, England on July 16, 2016, headlined by a Welterweight fight that features Nottingham, England-based fighter — and local fan-favorite Paul “Semtex” Daley — taking on the Brazilian-born (and Atlanta, Ga.,-based) “Phenom” Douglas Lima.
The former Welterweight champion Lima returns for his first fight in almost one year since losing a decision to Andrey Koreshkov and relinquishing his title in the progress. Prior to that point, Lima had won five straight via (technical) knockout). Daley is currently on a five-fight win streak of his own and wants to extend it to six after the main event in London. He’s even better known for his power than his opponent, with a combined 42 knockouts between kickboxing and mixed martial arts (MMA).
Can Daley emerge as the top contender for Koreshkov’s title by beating the former champion? We discuss that and the unfortunate circumstances leading to his main event spot in a recent conversation with MMAmania.com.
“Obviously, we were taken aback by Kimbo’s passing and that. (It was) devastating, he was a cool guy. I’m happy (though) and I feel privileged that I can take his place as a main event for the card at O2 Arena. And, yeah, it’s a great fight — Semtex versus Douglas Lima.”
Given that Josh Koscheck pulled out of a rematch with Daley for the second time leading up to this card, Daley seems to take it as a sign the rematch isn’t meant to happen and that it’s time to move on.
