Bellator 160: “Henderson vs. Pitbull” went down in Anaheim, Calif., back on August 26 at Honda Events Center. The main event saw Benson Henderson and Patricio Freire square off with No. 1 contender status in the lightweight division on the line.
The main event had a strange finish where Freire held up a hand and turned away in round two, forcing John McCarthy to stop the fight and declare Henderson the winner by technical knockout. We learned later that “Pitbull” broke his fibula when “Smooth” checked a kick in round one.
However it went down, Henderson netted a cool $75,000 (with no win bonus) in salaries disclosed to the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). The only fighter to even come close was his opponent, who took $50K for the disappointing loss.
