Bellator 170: “Ortiz vs. Sonnen” goes down this Saturday night (Jan. 21, 2017) at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., featuring a clash of Light Heavyweight titans with a long history in the sport (and with each other), Tito Ortiz vs. Chael Sonnen.
“The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” recently got his sweat on during an open media workout in Hollywood before the fight as a remix of 50 Cent’s “In the Club” peppered the air along with the sound of his jabs. After the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) finished showing off his skills for the assembled fans and media, he spoke to announcer Jimmy Smith about what he considers to be his last fight, as well as Sonnen’s trash talking leading up to it.
“As you said, nothing but talking,” Ortiz said. “This is my life and soul right here. For 20 years I’ve been competing [in MMA] and I’ve given it my all. I’ve given everything I possibly could, my heart and my soul over the last 14 weeks. I hope Chael Sonnen is ready to get killed. I’m ready. I’m ready for war.”
Ortiz previously cast aspersions on Sonnen dedicating the fight to his father, but at the workout he went out of his way to show some love for his mother.
“I dedicate this fight to my mother, who made a huge decision as a parent to take me away from my father because of a drug problem,” he said. “I had to do the same type of thing for my children just three years ago. My mother was the best parent she possibly could be, and I dedicate this fight to her.”
And the “Bad Boy” with a heart of gold for his mom also wanted to show love to his supporters who were watching … and listening.
“All the fans, they’ve been behind me through the thick and thin,” he said. “I’ve been through a roller coaster through my whole career, but I’m still standing here with all the fans. I’m not done yet — this is just (a transition) from one career to another.”
