Bellator 152 marks the fight promotion’s first event in Italy, but has suffered a hit to the main event.

The original main event was slated to be a light fight pitting Patricky “Pitbull” Freire vs. Derek Campos. Campos, however, suffered an undisclosed injury and had to withdraw from the fight. First reported by MMAJunkie.com, Bellator officials confirmed the fight change to MMAWeekly.com on Monday.

Bellator has inked a deal with UFC veteran Kevin Souza (16-4) to step in and keep Freire in the headlining slot.

What is expected to be the launching pad for Bellator’s global expansion, the Italian fight card is a blend of mixed martial arts bouts and kickboxing matches.

While Freire vs. Souza now headlines the MMA portion of the card, which also features Italian veteran Alessio Sakara vs. Brian Rogers, the kickboxing card is headlined by Melvin Manhoef vs. Alexandru Negrea.

Freire (15-7) enters the Bellator 152 main event on Saturday, April 16, coming off of a victory over Ryan Couture in January, while Souza is coming off of a loss to Chas Skelly in the UFC in November.
