It was an epic rematch scheduled to headline Bellator 144 at the Mohegan Sun Arena on October 23rd, but “Galvao vs. Dantas 2” is now postponed to a date, time, and location yet to be named. The original main event of Bellator 144 on October 23rd inside Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Arena was set to be an epic rematch between current bantamweight champion Marcos Galvao and former titleholder Eduardo Dantas.
That pairing was originally announced back in August of 2015. Dantas once knocked Galvao out at Bellator 89 in a title defense, but since that time, Galvao won a rematch of his own, knocking off Joe Warren to finally claim the gold.
Unfortunately, an injury suffered in training by Dantas has derailed a chance to see them meet again. As it stands now, the new main event of Bellator 144 will be a middleweight fight between Brandon Halsey and Rafael Carvalho. The winner after five rounds (or less) will claim the currently vacant Bellator 185-pound title.
One intriguing possibility remains out there, however, as MMA Fighting is reporting that Warren has agreed to the short notice rematch in principle, but the deal has yet to be signed in ink, according to Spike TV officials.
