Ben Askren tells Conor McGregor to accept Poirier fight: ‘You don’t want to get smashed by Khabib again’

Former UFC interim lightweight champ Dustin Poirier recently called for a rematch with Conor McGregor, but ‘The Notorious’ doesn’t seem interested in the match-up.

McGregor, who KO’d Poirier in a featherweight bout back in 2014, fired back at the ‘The Diamond’ with the following derogatory tweet.

That’s when former ONE FC and Bellator champ turned UFC welterweight contender Ben Askren interjected, putting McGregor on blast for his alleged bar attack in Ireland and lopsided loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.

“You don’t want to get smashed by Khabib again. Take the Dustin fight and be happy. And be nicer to old people,” Askren posted on Tuesday.

Askren then added the following comments, continuing to criticize McGregor for his submission loss to Nurmagomedov and reflecting on his own stoppage loss to Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal at UFC 239.

“I got hit by 1 errant shot. Lesson learned and won’t happen again! @TheNotoriousMMA got his ass beat for 18 minutes by Khabib and that will happen damn near every time,” Askren added.

“Let’s be serious @TheNotoriousMMA made too much money to ever have the desire to train at world champ level. He ain’t getting younger those times are gone. Only “glory days” and hot air now”.

“I’m not disingenuous enough to say “he got lucky” but it won’t happen again. Can’t wait for my path to cross @GamebredFighter again.”

Ben Askren is expected to return to the Octagon against veteran grappler Demian Maia at UFC Fight Night 162. The headlining bout is scheduled to take place next month, October 26 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.
