Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight contender Ben Rothwell is no longer competing at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 76 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on UFC Fight Pass, scheduled for Oct. 24, 2015, inside 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.
That’s because his opponent, Stipe Miocic, was injured and forced to withdraw.
Gutted Sorry to the fans. Sorry to the @ufc sorry to @RothwellFighter I’ll be back soon. But first I’d like to be able to put my socks on
— Stipe Miocic (@stipemiocicufc) October 13, 2015
“No hard feelings towards Stipe at all,” Rothwell told MMA Fighting. “I’ve been on the other side of the coin. These things happen, and I’d like to hope that everything happens for a reason. If by some act of God (Alistair) Overeem pulls out of the Junior dos Santos fight, I would be very happy. I want to fight JDS.”
Anything is possible.
Rothwell (35-9) is riding a three-fight winning streak — including a technical knockout win over the aforementioned Overeem — and could find himself knocking on the championship door with another high-profile victory. First, however, he needs an opponent.
Anyone come to mind?
