Bruno Malfacine has an opponent for his Brave Combat Federation debut in April.
Malfacine, a nine-time world champion in jiu-jitsu, is slated to face Rafael “Mini Man” Pereira Costa in a flyweight bout at Brave CF 11 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on April 13, promotion officials told MMA Fighting on Tuesday.
Malfacine (1-0) successfully debuted in in mixed martial arts last August, winning via submission in only 94 seconds at Shooto Brazil. Costa, 20, holds a 5-2 record in MMA.
”I started training at age 13, when Bruno Malfacine was already a world champion,” Costa told MMA Fighting. “I used to watch his videos to inspire me before tournaments and I call him an idol. It’s going to be amazing to face this guy in MMA.
”But this is MMA and I’m more experienced than him so I feel this fight favors me. I’m from jiu-jitsu and I always look to go to the ground, and it won’t be different against Bruno. He might be a nine-time world champion in jiu-jitsu, but this is MMA and I’m going to submit him.”
Brave CF 11 will be headlined by an interim lightweight title bout between UFC veteran Lucas Martins and Luan Santiago, while light heavyweight champion Klidson de Abreu puts his title on the line in the co-main event against a yet-to-be-defined opponent. His original foe, Kennedy Nzechukwu, was forced out of the card due to an injury.
