Brennan Ward Guarantees Fight with Cyborg ‘Won’t Go the Distance’

Following a disastrous 2014 that saw him lose back to back bouts for the first time in his career, Bellator welterweight “Irish” Brennan Ward rebounded last year, winning all his fights and cementing his place within the promotion.

“I had four fights and won all four by finish, so I’m on a winning streak and I don’t have to worry about getting fights for the next couple (events) at least,” Ward told MMAWeekly.com. “I work hard and try to do the right things, so things worked out.”

While getting wins are vital to continuing to fight at a high level, Ward understands the importance of not going to decision in order to remain an in-demand fighter.

“I think it’s important to get finishes,” said Ward. “The fans need to want to watch you. Our sport is nothing without the fans. If the fans want to see you fight, you will fight, (and finishes make them want to see you fight).”

Among the wins Ward picked up in 2015, was a victory over Ken Hasegawa at RIZIN’s two-day grand prix series. Having been a fan of the previous incarnation of the company, Ward was pleased to fight for them and win.

“It was awesome,” ward Said. “It was a great arena we fought in (at Saitama). It was essentially the same company as Pride, so that was awesome, and it meant a lot to me.”

Ward (13-3) returns to Bellator on April 22 in Uncasville, Conn., to take on veteran Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos (20-16) in a main card 170-pound bout.
