It’s going down, folks! After Canelo Alvarez worked over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last night (Sat., May 6, 2017) live on HBO pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, it was announced that the Mexican champion will move up in weight yet again to challenge undefeated middleweight king Gennady Golovkin on Sept. 16 live on HBO PPV.
Golovkin was brought into the ring and promised that the September matchup will be the “Mexican Showdown” that boxing fans hoped would happen last night between Canelo and Chavez Jr. And after GGG wished Alvarez good luck, Canelo responded quickly and said, “Luck is for the mediocre.”

As two of the most prolific names in boxing today, fight fans have been waiting for a Canelo vs. Golovkin mashup for quite some time. Alvarez will give up some size to the 35-year-old Kazakhstani, but he’ll benefit from a significant speed advantage.
Legacy will be on the line for both fighters, as Alvarez tries to win his 50th career bout and GGG attempts to push his overall record to 38-0.
