Former boxing champion Carl Froch will commentate alongside Dan Hardy for the UK broadcast of Mayweather vs. Mayweather.
On Wednesday, Sky Sports announced that UFC fighter turned analyst and commentator Dan Hardy would be joining their UK broadcast team for the boxing showdown between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Earlier today, Sky Sports revealed that former four-time boxing world champion Carl Froch would be joining ‘The Outlaw’ in the commentary booth to call the action on Aug. 26.
Froch, who turned 40 last month, thinks Mayweather-McGregor could be a ‘disaster’.
“McGregor has all of the Irish behind him, he’s just massive,” Froch said during Thursday’s conference call, per Peter Carroll of MMA Fighting.
“Then you’ve got Mayweather, who has been out of the ring for two years. It’s the element of the unknown, what’s he going to be like? It’s two massive stars from different sports coming together in what could potentially be a disaster.”
The Nottingham-based boxer thinks ring rust could affect Mayweather but believes the pound-for-pound great should beat ‘The Notorious’ on the night.
“It could be a mismatch for McGregor, it could be a disaster for Mayweather if the two years out of the ring have really softened him. We just don’t know how he’s going to react or respond when he starts letting shots go.
“I’m quite confident that Mayweather has still got it and got enough to beat McGregor. It’s a whole new discipline for him. Let’s be honest, he’s not a boxer.”
Although Froch has been critical of the bout, ‘The Cobra’ admitted that it’s one of the biggest fights in combat sports history.
“I think he’s really going to struggle,” Froch said of McGregor. “Regardless of what you think, the fight is massive.”
Mayweather vs. McGregor will be available on Sky Sports Box Office for £19.95 in the UK, and €24.95 in McGregor’s home country of Ireland.
The boxing extravaganza takes place two weeks on Saturday, August 26, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
