The heavily-anticipated Welterweight showdown between standup specialist Carlos Condit and submission wizard, Demian Maia, has been taken off the UFC 202 main card for the Aug. 20, 2016 pay-per-view (PPV) event.
That’s because it will now be headlining UFC on FOX 21, which is set to go down on Aug. 27 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, according to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
A move that was necessary, as the FOX-televised event was still lacking a headliner, despite the fact that tickets had already gone on sale.
Maia will be putting his five-fight win streak — as well as his championship hopes — on the line against the former 170-pound title challenger who was last seen on the wrong end of a decision loss to division king Robbie Lawler at UFC 195.
While a tough blow to UFC 202, the PPV event is still high on star power, as it will be headlined by a much-anticiapted rematch as Conor McGregor looks to get one back on Nate Diaz in the headlining act.
Also, Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira battle for a potential title fight against Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, while Donald Cerrone looks to keeps his momentum going against Rick Story.
UFC on FOX 21 will also see Joe Lauzon and Jim Miller get it on for a second time, while Paige VanZant returns to face Bec Rawlings.
Also, Anthony Pettis makes his Featherweight debut against Charles Oliveira.
