So far so good for Chael Sonnen and Tito Ortiz.
According to Andy Foster, executive officer of the California State Athletic Commission, both Sonnen and Ortiz have passed all out-of-competition drug tests leading up to their Bellator 170 main event next weekend.
Ortiz has only been tested once, and those results arrived Thursday. Sonnen has taken three tests and has passed them all.
Foster ordered Sonnen to pay for the first test as a condition of his licensure, and once he passed that one, CSAC tested him two more times. All four tests were urine only.
Ortiz and Sonnen are the only fighters on the card, scheduled for Jan. 21 in Inglewood, Calif., who have been drug tested thus far.
The fight will mark Sonnen’s debut with the promotion, as well as his first since being suspended for two years by the Nevada Athletic Commission in 2014 for failing two out-of-competition drug tests. It will also mark Ortiz’s final professional fight.
