community news, Chris Weidman details serious neck injury that ended Luke Rockhold fight at UFC 199

By now, most mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are aware that former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Chris Weidman will no longer be competing at the upcoming UFC 199 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for June 4, 2016 inside The Forum in Los Angeles, California.

Now they know why.

His former opponent, reigning 185-pound titleholder Luke Rockhold, is expected to remain on the card. Leading candidates include longtime division contender Michael Bisping and former Strikeforce nemesis Ronaldo Souza; however, nothing is official at this time.

Nothing except Weidman’s injury.

His UFC 194 loss to Rockhold, which came by way of fourth-round technical knockout last December, was the first of his pro career. The 31-year-old New Yorker first rose to power with a pair of wins over Anderson Silva and will no doubt be itching to erase the memory of his most recent defeat.

Eventually.
