Liddell denies rumors of a return to the cage, but does have some choice words for Sonnen.
The mini-feud between Chael Sonnen and Chuck Liddell is one of the oddest to come out of 2017. Sonnen called out the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion after beating longtime rival Wanderlei Silva at Bellator 180.
Called my Manager
Get Chuck’s Manager on phone. He said
‘Where Chuck’s at, he don’t even have a MAILMAN, much less a Manager”
— Chael Sonnen (@ChaelSonnen) July 25, 2017
According to Chuck Liddell, the talk surrounding the possible match-up is just a rumor.
“It’s a great match-up for me, if we’re gonna fight. But I haven’t talked to anybody about anything,” Liddell told TMZ Sports.
That didn’t stop Liddell from throwing some verbal jabs at Sonnen and breaking down the possible fight.
“Never been very interested in fighting him. He’s kind of a boring fighter. It’s a great match-up for me…” Liddell said while checking into the airport.
“It’s an easy match-up. He ain’t gonna take me down and lay on me.”
Liddell also said that he understands why Sonnen is pushing for the fight, but that it would take the right payday to come out of retirement.
“He wants a big money fight, right? It’s gotta be big money if I’m fighting him. He needs to draw something.”
Liddell retired from MMA competition in 2010 following three straight KO losses. Soon after he was given a position as UFC executive vice president of business development. Liddell stayed employed by the UFC until last December when the UFC let go of several employees, including UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes.
