Clayton York Plans to Close Out 2018 Undefeated and With a Title

When it comes to his first round TKO victory over Matt Howell on May 5 at CageSport 51, light-heavyweight prospect Clayton York couldn’t be much happier.

Not only was York able to pick up a win and remain undefeated, getting a finish in his first bout of the year was also sweet.

“It was one of those fights where everything kind of went right,” York told MMAWeekly.com. “I think looking back at it there were some things I could have tweaked about it, but you have to be happy with a finish, with a knockout.”

Clayton YorkAs the undefeated up and comer heading into the bout with Howell, York admitted that there was additional pressure on him to win, but he did his best to approach the fight like any other he’s had in his career.

“When you’re expected to win there is more pressure than when you have nothing to lose,” said York. “I approached it the same way I approach every fight; with a clear, level, head and not overly amped up; just go out there and do what I’m supposed to do.

“The fight is won or lost before you get to the cage. You just rely on your training and trust that you’ve done everything that you’re supposed to.”

For York, the path ahead in 2018 is pretty much laid out, and he knows where he wants to be by year’s end.

“I have one more fight this year in October against an opponent that I’ve already beat (in Justus Faaiu), York said. “ It’ll be a title fight for Prime Fighting in Vancouver, Washington.

“My goal is to win that fight; win it decisively; I want to finish him this time. (From there I want to) finish up this year undefeated, with a title, and wanting to continue to improve in every facet of the game.”
