CM Punk: ‘People are upset’ I’m in the UFC, but ‘I’m creating jobs’

CM Punk isn’t sure why fans are so angry about his presence in the UFC. After all, this bout between Mickey Gall and Mike Jackson on Saturday night wouldn’t be happening without him.

“The whole situation is weird,” Punk told Ariel Helwani in an interview on UFC Fight Pass. “People are upset. People think the whole thing is strange but what I’m doing is creating jobs. I’ve created two so far. I wish both guys well.”

If Gall beats Jackson on Saturday night at UFC Fight Night: Hendricks vs. Thompson in Las Vegas, he will be the first person to face Punk in the UFC. Punk, of course, is a former WWE star with a huge fan following around the world, but has never competed in formal martial arts anywhere. Punk will be cageside Saturday watching.

“This is obviously gonna be on tape, so if I need to dissect anything and watch it over and over again, I’ll do it later,” Punk said. “I’m just gonna enjoy the moment. I hope Mickey and Mike enjoy the moment. I’m just gonna be a fan.”

Punk said he doesn’t know much about Gall. He only has won pro fight, which he won for Ring of Combat in front of UFC president Dana White as part of the “Lookin’ For a Fight” reality show on Fight pass.

“I know he drives a bread truck, which I commend him for,” Punk said. “You gotta do what you gotta do. That means he’s hungry.

“He’s a bit of a mystery. I’m a bit of a mystery. So I think it works, it makes sense.”
