Coach: Holly Holm ‘broke’ Ronda Rousey, gave Amanda Nunes an easier fight

Reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes retained the 135-pound title she stripped from Miesha Tate by annihilating Ronda Rousey in the UFC 207 main event last December in Las Vegas, Nevada.

But was “Lioness” that good … or was “Rowdy” that bad?

Depends on who you ask. Coach Mike Winkeljohn believes his star pupil and former 135-pound titleholder, Holly Holm, “broke” Rousey with her UFC 193 knockout win in late 2015, perhaps ending the judoka’s career in mixed martial arts (MMA).

“Wink” talks to Submission Radio:

“I think Holly broke her. I think Ronda was on top of the world and Holly broke her, because when she came out for Amanda she just wasn’t the same fighter by any means. Not taking anything away from Amanda, but Ronda, she didn’t have anything, she just wasn’t there. She was just basically waiting for the end in essence once she couldn’t find a way to grab her. And she did the same thing she’s done before in the past, reaching out with her left arm and trying to corral. It was just a one-sided fight just like I said. I think she’s done.”

He’s not the only one.

Following a canned statement in the wake of her UFC 207 defeat, not much has been heard from Rousey over the past few weeks (outside of this). Promotion president Dana White sounds less confident in her return as the weeks drag on and the division isn’t getting any easier.

Holm, meanwhile, has moved on to bigger and better things (literally).
