Prior to knocking out Takeya Mizugaki in 48 seconds of the first round at last weekend’s (Sat., Aug. 20, 2016) UFC 202 pay-per-view (PPV) event (see it), Cody Garbrandt had a backstage confrontation with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz.
To hear “No Love” tell it, “The Dominator” was so “scared” that he was anxiously looking for security to break it up.
“My response to his critiquing is that he’s a little bitch, first off,” Garbrandt said on The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting). “And he’s scared. I went up to him before the fight, we walked in, we’re getting security patted down. He’s was sitting around there. I just went up to him and let him know, hey, I’m going to knock Takeya out and then you’re next. And you should’ve seen how scared that dude was. He was looking around to see if security was going to break it up,” said the 135-pound contender.
After his win, Cody took to the mic to call out Cruz for a championship fight, one Cruz is highly-open to.
For Garbrandt, there’s talking trash and there is crossing the line, which Cruz did when he decided to bring up Cody’s past of growing up without a father.
“And he wants to bring up daddy issues and this and that? He was so scared that his voice was squeaking out like a little bitch when he was trying to talk shit back to me. Oh man, it was hilarious,” he said. “I felt the energy of how scared he was, and he’s a dead man when I lock horns with him. It’s just a matter of time.”
