UFC welterweight Colby Covington has contacted police in Sydney over his on-camera clash with heavyweight headliner Fabricio Werdum.

Fresh from his win over Demian Maia in Sao Paulo, and on the heels of his tirades against Brazilians and Jon Jones, UFC welterweight Colby Covington has become embroiled in another heated exchange; this time with former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum.

On Wednesday footage emerged, courtesy of UFC featherweight Dan Hooker, of Covington and Werdum arguing outside a hotel in Sydney, Australia. As the argument escalates Werdum can be seen throwing a boomerang at Covington. The traditional Australian weapon is seen making contact with at least Covington’s shoulder.

According to Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting, Werdum later gave an interview to a Brazilian outlet where he claimed Covington had accosted him and called him a “filthy Brazilian.” Werdum said he then slapped a phone out of Covington’s hand, to which the American responded with a kick.

Covington recorded part of the confrontation using Instagram live, though the video has since been removed. MMA Fighting reports that Covington could be heard in that video making disparaging remarks against Brazilians and using an anti-gay slur towards Werdum.

MMA Fighting also reports that Covington is pressing charges against Werdum over the fracas. Sherdog made the same claim, adding that Covington is also alleging that Werdum punched him during the incident and that he has video evidence as proof. Reportedly, local police have this video in their possession as well as an eye witness to the whole incident.

This is not the first time Werdum has been involved in a confrontation with another UFC fighter outside of the cage. Just last month Werdum had to be separated from Tony Ferguson at a media luncheon promoting UFC 216. During that confrontation Werdum used an anti-gay slur towards Ferguson.

Fabricio Werdum is currently scheduled to fight in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Werdum vs. Tybura. It’s unclear whether this most recent incident will prevent this from happening.
