Colby Covington picked up perhaps the biggest win of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career by edging out Dong Hyun Kim at last night’s (Sat. June 17, 2017) UFC Fight Night 111 event in Singapore.
Full recap here.
Afterward, “Chaos” took aim at the welterweight division, and he didn’t discriminate, going after guys like Rafael dos Anjos — who barely made his debut in the weight class — to the defending champion, Tyron Woodley. In fact, Colby had a warning for “The Chosen One.”
“I know Tyron Woodely got tired just watching this at home,” said Covington during the post-fight presser via Fox Sports. “Last time I trained with him, it wasn’t even competitive. He gets tired just watching this, I’ll break him in half.”
What happens in the gym doesn’t always stay in the gym.
Indeed, both Covington and Woodley represent American Top Team (ATT), though Colby trains at the main gym in Florida, while Tyron does his training in Missouri.
The standout wrestler — who has yet to crack the top 15 — isn’t short on confidence, as he slammed former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos — who defeated Tarec Saffiedine earlier in the evening in his welterweight debut — for avoiding him at all costs, but declared he can only hide for so long.
“The same thing would have happened to Rafael dos Anjos. Dude, he’s scared, he’s been ducking me for a long time,” Covington said. “There’s a reason he didn’t fight me tonight and this is the reason, said Colby. “Tell RDA he’s next.” All a part of his “embarrassment tour.”
And he had one final parting shot for Woodley, Stephen Thompson and everyone else in the division:
