Conor McGregor, Demetrious Johnson nominated for Best Fighter at the ESPY Awards

Two UFC champions are competing for the 2017 ESPY “Best Fighter” award.

Conor McGregor and Demetrious Johnson are among the five nominees for the award, ESPN announced on Wednesday. The mixed martial artists will compete with professional boxers Andre Ward, Gennady Golovkin and Terence Crawford for the award.

“The Notorious”, who won the “Best Fighter” award in 2016, is also up for the “Best International Athlete” award, competing with Cristiano Ronaldo (soccer), Usain Bolt (track and field), Canelo Alvarez (boxing) and Katinka Hosszu (swimming).

McGregor made history in the UFC in 2016, becoming the first fighter to ever hold titles in two different weight divisions simultaneously. After knocking out Jose Aldo in 13 seconds to win the featherweight belt in 2015, the Irishmen went 1-1 against Nate Diaz and stopped Eddie Alvarez to win the lightweight gold last year.

Johnson also had a perfect year in 2016, defending his UFC flyweight championship with wins over Henry Cejudo and Tim Elliot. Earlier this year, “Mighty Mouse” finished Wilson Reis to tie Anderson Silva’s record of most title defenses in the UFC.
