Conor McGregor disciplinary case with Nevada commission likely to be resolved next week

Conor McGregor’s saga with the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) should be over next week.

On Wednesday, McGregor’s disciplinary case will be brought back to the table by the commission, per an agenda posted to the NAC website Friday. MMAjunkie was the first to report its appearance.

The agenda states that the NAC will hold a hearing to address McGregor’s recent motion for a re-hearing in the disciplinary case stemming from the water bottle-throwing incident from the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference back in August. McGregor was fined $75,000, made to do 50 hours of community service and asked to do a public-service announcement (estimated at a $75,000 value) by the commission in October.

McGregor had been challenging the NAC’s ruling in Nevada court. But last month, the UFC lightweight champion met with NAC executive director Bob Bennett and chairman Anthony Marnell in Las Vegas and requested a re-hearing.

If the commission votes for a re-hearing, there are two options on the agenda. One is to give McGregor that full re-hearing Wednesday. The other is for the commissioners to vote on an agreement that McGregor and Bennett have already come to, per the agenda.

Bennett has said that he will also re-address the sanctions on Nate Diaz, who was also involved in the incident, if McGregor gets a new slate of punishments. Diaz was fined $50,000 and made to do 50 hours of community service for his role in the skirmish.

At that press conference, Diaz and his team left early and a member of the squad threw a bottle in the direction of McGregor’s team. That ignited a fracas that saw McGregor’s team, Diaz and Diaz’s team and then McGregor from the stage tossing water bottles and other objects at each other. McGregor also threw an energy drink can in the direction of Diaz’s team.
