Conor McGregor nominated for 2017 ESPY award because he’s from Ireland

Move over, “Rowdy.”

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight needle-mover Conor McGregor is from Dublin, Ireland, and he’s also very athletic, so it should come as no surprise that “Notorious” was nominated for “Best International Athlete” at the 2017 ESPY awards.

Opposing him in the online votes (see them here) are international superstars Canelo Alvarez (boxing), Usain Bolt (track and field), Katinka Hosszu (swimming), and Cristiano Ronaldo (soccer).

That’s not all.

McGregor also garnered a nomination for “Best Fighter,” but he’ll have to beat fellow UFC champion Demetrious Johnson — ranked one slot above “Notorious” in the pound-for-pound list — as well as boxing’s Terence Crawford, Gennady Golovkin, and Andre Ward.

Since fans hate short people, we can go ahead and eliminate “Mighty Mouse.”

McGregor captured the UFC featherweight title from Jose Aldo in late 2015, then went on to unify that strap with the 155-pound belt by crushing Eddie Alvarez in Nov. 2016. His next act will come in the boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather.

Because this is McGregor’s world and we just live in it.
