They’re all on steroids.
You’ve heard Nate Diaz say it time and time again regarding his peers in mixed martial arts. Nick, his brother, has made the same claim for years.
On Friday, Conor McGregor, Diaz’s biggest rival, went all in with him on that statement. McGregor admitted that Diaz is correct.
“I’m happy to be tested,” McGregor said on a UFC 202 conference call. “The boy is not far along — they f*cking all are on steroids. So it is f*cked up. The co-main and main at 200. That’s messed up to me. I don’t know.”
McGregor, the UFC featherweight champion, was referring to Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar both failing drug tests in relation to UFC 200 last month. Ironically, McGregor and Diaz were supposed to headline that card, but the UFC pulled the fight when McGregor refused to fly to the United States to go on a three-city media tour in April. The fight has been rebooked for UFC 202 on Aug. 20 in Las Vegas.
Lesnar and Jones both failed tests for the anti-estrogen agent clomiphene. Jones also popped for letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor that stops the testosterone from turning into estrogen in the body. These are common substances for athletes coming off a cycle of steroids, but Jones and Lesnar are denying knowingly ingesting the substances.
Jones said he would never knowingly cheat after he was pulled from the UFC 200 main event against Daniel Cormier three days before the event. Jones and his team have said that he might have taken a supplement or something else that was tainted with those banned drugs. Both Jones and Lesnar are going through the appeal process and are facing sanctions from USADA and the Nevada Athletic Commission.
