During today’s UFC 202 pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas, Nevada (video replay here), it was business as usual. As in Conor McGregor was once again a late arrival to his media obligation, showing up to the presser 15 minutes after it began. And Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White didn’t like it one bit, ripping into the current Featherweight champion for not respecting the process … and the people it includes.
“So we are starting without him,” White said. “He has to start respecting peoples’ time, man. Mine, theirs, yours, David Copperfield’s — Everybody’s. We have only so much time in this room. Listen, we are having a press conference with the people who are here. If it’s over before he gets here then it’s over. Do you have any questions other than Conor being late?”
These antics are nothing new for “Notorious,” who was also late to his press conference for his scheduled Lightweight title fight against Rafael dos Anjos, which was supposed to go down at UFC 196 last March before “RDA” went down with an injury. And how can we forget the fact that McGregor was pulled from UFC 200 after he refused to fulfill all of his media obligations in the lead up to his rematch against Diaz.
Nevertheless, when McGregor did finally show up, he blamed his tardiness on “Sin City” traffic.
“I thought it was at at half one, I was told half one,” McGregor said. “Vegas traffic is heavy at this time of the year — there must be a McGregor show going on because the place is packed out. These fucking press conferences, I mean, I’ve made these press conference help shape what this is and they have got me kicked off cards before. Look, I’m just happy to be here. ….View full article
