Alexander Gustafsson is now 0-2 in a pair of hotly contested Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) title fights after reigning light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was awarded a (relatively) controversial split-decision win over “The Mauler” last night (Oct. 3, 2015) in their UFC 192 pay-per-view (PPV) headliner, which took place inside Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

In what was a bloody affair, “DC” was able to springboard off his normally potent wrestling game — he notched a takedown in round one — to have success in striking over the Swedish powerhouse. For five frames, Cormier (17-1) stalked Gustafsson (16-4), bringing the fight to his doorstep in the way of powerful uppercuts and several crushing hooks.
However, the 28-year-old Swede was able to take down Cormier twice in the second round. He also stunned the American Kickboxing Academy staple with a stinging knee and left hook in the waning seconds of round three, which many would say put Gustafsson up 2-1.
