UFC president Dana White not only announced the return of Ronda Rousey on Wednesday, but he also let the cat out of the bag on her next fight after that, as well.
In an appearance on FOX Sports 1, White said the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion would meet current champ Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in Las Vegas for the title.
But White then said that if Rousey wins and regains the title, the long-discusses superfight with Cris Cyborg could be next.
“I know that Cyborg wants that fight,” White said. “Ronda wants that fight too. So, Ronda’s plan right now is to come back and win her title back, and if that happens, the Cyborg fight will definitely happen.”
White then went on to add Rousey’s popularity in Brazil is such that she’s one of the few foreigners to be cheered when fighting Brazilian fights, as was the case when she fought Bethe Correia at UFC 190.
“Ronda Rousey is a megastar,” White said. “She’s not even a star. Every time we go to Brazil, all the Brazilians want is for the Brazilians to win. They boo everyone else, no matter what. When Ronda Rousey went down there, she was the biggest, Anderson Silva, any of these guys that were huge stars in Brazil, when we were down there, everyone was cheering for Ronda instead of the Brazilian fighter.
That was music to the ears of Cyborg, the current Invicta and former Strikeforce featherweight champion, who has proven to be a draw back home in Brazil during her UFC run.
Upon hearing the news, Cyborg told MMAFighting.com’s Guilherme Cruz that if Rousey is so big in Brazil, then that’s where a Rousey-Cyborg fight should be made.
