During the FOX Sport 1 broadcast for the preliminary portion of UFC 208 earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 11, 2017), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) announced that featherweights Cub Swanson and Artem Lobov will headline UFC Fight Night from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 22. It will be Swanson’s first main event bid since dropping a submission loss to Frankie Edgar back at UFC Fight Night 57.
The promotion also announced the following fights for the event:
Lightweight: Al Iaquinta vs. Diego Sanchez
Middleweight: Thales Leites vs. Sam Alvey
Flyweight: Dustin Ortiz vs. Brandon Moreno
For Lobov, who is best known for being Conor McGregor’s punching bag, this is a huge opportunity to gain some notoriety as an up-and-coming featherweight slugger who can stand in the pocket and deliver. Remember, “The Russian Hammer” called for this bout last month and now gets his wish.
As for Swanson, the last time we saw him he was throwing bombs opposite Doo Ho Choi at UFC 206 in one of the best fights of 2016. A win over Lobov certainly isn’t going to launch Swanson into immediate title contention, but another main event spot can’t hurt his UFC stock.
