Dana White: Dont expect Cerrone vs. Lawler on the UFC 214 card

Earlier rumors that Donald Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler might be moved from UFC 213 to 214 are untrue.

It was probably too good to be true.

Earlier today, we learned that the much anticipated Donald Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler fight set for UFC 213 on July 8th was off. Cerrone later came on social media to clarify why exactly he had to pull out of the fight, explaining it was a ‘super bad blood infection’ that had him down and out. But he added he was ‘working on getting the fight rescheduled’ and expected to be fine after 7 days on an IV.

That doesn’t sound so bad. Could the fight reappear at UFC 214?

Nope, not according to UFC president Dana White.

“Here’s the deal,” White told MMA Junkie. “Cowboy Cerrone is a stud. He’s too tough for his own good. He absolutely wanted to fight. The kid’s got a pulled groin, he’s got a bruise from his knee to the inside of his groin. And his other knee is blowing up; he’s got staph infection. Could he come out and fight? Probably. Should he come out and fight Robbie Lawler with a pulled groin? No, he shouldn’t. We’re going to get him healthy and remake the fight.”

There’s also the fact that UFC 214 has more than its fair share of amazing fights. In addition to the Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones light heavyweight title match, it also has Cris Cyborg vs. Tonya Evinger for the vacant women’s featherweight belt and the just added Tyron Woodley vs. Demian Maia welterweight title fight.

One card can only hold so much goodness, apparently. Let’s just hope we don’t have to wait much longer for Lawler vs. Cerrone.
