I guess there’s something to be said for Brazilian solidarity.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Anderson Silva was so valuable to the world’s preeminent mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion — even after acting like a jackass — that UFC President Dana White and then-CEO Lorenzo Fertitta gave him one of this richest contracts in combat sports.
Turns out they probably could have just said “thank you” and saved the company a few million bucks.
“The Spider” went on record to complain about the promotion’s lack of gratitude, stemming from a short-notice fight (worth $600k) the Brazilian took after Jon Jones pissed a hole through a Dixie cup ahead of UFC 200.
See those comments here.
“Let me tell you what, there’s probably some guys that can come out and say they felt like they’ve been mistreated. Anderson Silva is not one of them,” White told Speak for Yourself on FOX Sports 1 (via MMA Fighting). “That is a guy who has been far from mistreated. Far from mistreated.”
Guys, it’s a fight. Is normal.
Silva, who hasn’t won a fight in over four years, currently awaits his Anderson Silva money next assignment.
