Dana White: I’m not worried about Conor McGregor walking after Floyd Mayweather superfight

It was reported last month by a Showtime Sports executive that the rumored superfight between UFC champion Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. is largely at a standstill. While UFC president Dana White doesn’t refute the difficulties that he has encountered while trying to book the money fight, he completely disagrees with the executive’s reason for the slowed process.

“I saw a quote the other day from a guy from Showtime who said that I’m stalling the thing [Mayweather vs. McGregor] because I’m worried that McGregor will retire after this fight, which is completely false and not even close to being true,” said White in a recent interview with TMZ Sports (shown above).

“To get a deal like this done, this doesn’t happen in a couple months. It’s gonna be a tough deal to get done, if it gets done at all.”

It’s good to know that White wouldn’t stall negotiations based on the idea that “Notorious” may not return to MMA if he’s able to score a once-in-a-lifetime payday. McGregor is obviously the biggest name in UFC today, but the promotion has moved on from big stars in the past.

While White is working vigorously to give McGregor the chance to meet “Money” inside of the boxing ring, nothing is set in stone. At this rate, it’s probably 50-50 that the fight even happens.
